Traditional Dance and Music is the home site for some Connecticut performers who look to preserve and share cultural heritage through traditional avenues, pass it along, and have a lot of fun in the process!
Colonial/18th century dances, cotillions, quadrilles, contras, squares, Playparty games, folk dances are examples of traditional social dances. Callers help people learn and participate in the dancing. The caller walks the dancers through the dance and then prompts the figures as the dance continues.
New England and French Canadian jigs & reels, traditional and contemporary Celtic tunes, Appalachian and Americana tunes, along with historical dance music, couple-dance music like schottisches, waltzes, and polkas make up the repertoire of the musicians. |
